Our Mission

Dear You,

"What happened to you does not define you."

This is the statement we live by here at I AM NO VICTIM. Too often, people who have suffered and survived sexual violence are are left in the aftermath with title "victim".

While this word can be beneficial in acknowledging the trauma experienced, it's also a word that can hurt more than it heals.

The word “victim” leaves survivors with an identity that does not feel like our own. It doesn't define us by our own terms, but in relevance to our abusers. That word does not take into account who we were and still are despite the violence we’ve experienced. As “victims”, we are left feeling damaged, ashamed and irrevocably powerless.

I AM NO VICTIM is about taking our power back.

At I AM NO VICTIM, we are devoted to reclaiming the narrative surrounding youth who have experienced sexual violence. We believe that all survivors should be able to define themselves by their own terms. Through providing community in truth, healing, and the reclaiming of personal power, we hope to ensure that all youth survivors of abuse can make this statement:

“I am no victim.”

To do this, we've created an on online, interactive community space for survivors to come forward and share their narratives in whichever way they see fit. This could be by submitting to our call for submissions. Or, by sharing and connecting with other members through our Gallery, Journal and Forum spaces.

Here, you'll be able to speak your truth in a safe and supportive environment dedicated to making your road to recovery one that isn't lonely. We have also included links to resources, centers and other communities that can provide any survivor with the help they may need on their way to healing.

We are here to provide you with the support, knowledge, and encouragement to not only to continue on with your narrative, but to reclaim your power.

Here we know that being seen, heard and felt is where the healing starts. Despite the systems stacked against us, will not be silenced. We choose to have our voices heard. We choose to stand proud knowing that who we are is worthy and deserving of so much more.

Join us as we take the world by storm. Thanks for stopping by.

All our best,

(p.s. You survived the abuse. You'll survive the recovery.)
